Giving to NWMHC
As a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, Northwestern Mental Health Center is allowed to accept contributions from individuals and entities wishing to support our work. Interested donors may make donations at any time. Donations may be designated by the donor to be used for general support of our work or to support specific endeavors.
We currently have two specific initiatives that are supported by private donations.
The Phoenix Project
The Phoenix Project provides individuals who have or are facing trauma with supportive, caring tools including calming essential oils, inspirational stones, a meditative journal, and personal size, soft blanket. Utilizing trauma therapy techniques, along with offering these physical items, helps wrap the individual in compassionate care in a very tangible way. Janet Denison, our Clinical Practice Development Director states, “I gave a kit to a resilient lady with some severe past trauma this afternoon. Following her acceptance of this gift, I noticed she seemed to be walking a little taller, looking me in the eye a little longer, and smiled with half her mouth, which was much more than before she received the kit.” We know that trauma affects so many. We also know, at times, a gift that can be seen, felt, smelled and heard adds to trust, resiliency and healing.
The Kindness Fund
The Kindness Fund was started by an anonymous donor who was surprised to learn that many of our clients face challenges even being able to purchase small, but critical items, as they make their journey from homelessness to having housing, or making a journey from in-patient care to living back in the community. The Kindness Fund allows our staff to have a way to help our clients make critical purchases, such as personal care items, as they take steps on their recovery journey. As with the Phoenix Project, a little support can mean a lot.
Individuals who wish to make a financial contribution to support the work of NWMHC are welcome to do so. Donors may specify the intended use of their donation or make that a responsibility of the agency.
